Intro to Diagnostics

What are diagnostics and how long do they take (and more importantly, what do they cost ;-) )?

Diagnostics are tests that help tell us if your computer or other device is suffering from a hardware problem, a software problem, or both. This testing also helps us to pinpoint the root cause of the issues you are having and helps us find and fix other issues before they become problems.

The number, type, and duration of these tests depends on the manufacturer, model, and age of your computer, as well as how small it is and how fast it runs. This is why it is very difficult to tell how long the diagnostics will take.

Like everything else in this world, how much diagnostics cost depends on who does them. For some companies, it depends on where they are done as well. If they are performed at your home or business, they will cost more than ones performed at the computer repair shop (at the repair shop they can run diagnostics on multiple machines at the same time). Companies typically base their fees on two things: 1. Average Diagnostic Time (labor) and 2. Average Diagnostic Overhead (Tools, Supplies, Power, etc.). So how much does a diagnostic cost? It depends on how much it cost the computer repair shop.

Okay, if you really want to know, we charge a $47.50 deposit for a comprehensive test session which is applied to the cost of any approved repairs; this is of course a fancy way of saying that the cost of diagnostics is included in your repair price unless you choose not to have the repairs done (in which case the deposit will cover your diagnostics).

Any question you have on this or other topics just send us a message, or post in the comments. Have a great day!
